‘a-1 Lexical Prefix phonetic environment examination

When followed by the 1st person Sg. pre, the following takes place:

‘a1- + -sh- 1st Person Sg. Pre= ‘iish- (Ex. ‘iishááh)

 

When followed by the Classifier or stem the following takes place:

‘a1- + -0- classifier= ‘ii-+stem (Ex.‘iighááh)

‘a1- + -ł- classifier= ‘iił- +stem 

‘a1- + -l- classifier= ‘iil- +stem (Ex. ‘iilyeed)

‘a1- + -d- classifier= ‘iid-+ stem 

 

When followed directly by the unidentified /’/ obj. The following takes place:

‘a1- + / ‘ / Unidentified Obj. Pre.=  ‘e’e- (Ex. ‘e’e’aah, ‘e’estsééh)

 

When followed by the (y)-p subject prefixes of the 0/ł classifiers which appear when preceded by a disjunct prefix (0-4pos.) the following takes place: 

‘a1-+ v́v́(y)-p 1st.p sg.subj.= ʼíí-

ʼa1-+ v́íní(y)-p 2nd.p sg subj= ʼííní

ʼa1-+ v́v́(y)-p 3rd.p sg subj= ʼíí

 

When followed by the (y)-p subject prefixes of the d/l classifiers which appear when preceded by a disjunct(0-4pos.) prefix, the following takes place:

ʼa1-+ vvsh(y)-p 1st.p sg subj.= ʼeesh-

ʼa1-+ v́íní(y)-p 2nd.p sg. subj= ʼííní

ʼa1-+ ʼvv(y)-p 3rd.p sg subj= ʼee-

 

When followed by a open vowel subject prefix, -ii- 1st.p dl.pl, -oh-2nd.p dl.pl, -oo-2nd.p dl.pl., the /‘a/ contracts to a /’/: 

‘a1-+ -ii- 1st.p dl.pl.= ‘ii- (Ex. ‘iit’áázh)

‘a1-+ -o- 2nd.p dl.pl.= ‘o- (Ex. ‘ooh’aash)

 

When followed by a lexical prefix which doesn’t fall under any of these situation, /’a/ simply connects to the prefix:

‘a- + any other Lex. Pre.= ‘aC (Ex.‘adoogaał)
